Hip Hop Music - The Origin Story of Hip Hop Music
While many musicians strive to make their own unique style of music, many feel that the hip-hop music genre is a little different. Some people believe that there is a certain sound that makes up hip hop music, but others insist that there is no such thing as "hip-hop music."
There are two opinions about the origins of hip hop music. Some people believe that it originated from a certain street on Manhattan Island. The birthplace of hip-hop music has been identified as being a certain section of East Harlem.
The story goes that the legendary, and still highly-acclaimed, jazz musician, Miles Davis was in a bar with a famous musician when the famous musician was talking about the beat in the streets of Manhattan Island. When the jazz musician heard this, he decided to put his mind to it. He wrote a few lines of "The Score" and recorded it into a tape.
Another famous musician, whose name we should not forget, was inducted into the hallowed halls of the American Music Hall of Fame for the Recording of the Legendary Jazz Performance by the Composer, Art Blakey. That night, The Late Show with David Letterman did a piece on this musician. During the segment, the late night talk show hosts were allowed to play Blakey's hit piece, "The Score."
The most notorious story about the genesis of hip hop music is that of "Lego," who got his start in the music industry from playing the piano. Lego played a role in introducing the original hip hop sample library to the world. Lego went on to become a producer for the rapper 50 Cent, who recorded his first song on the piano called "Krump."
Of course, some think that "Lego" actually found it easier to record on the piano than on the keyboards of a professional studio. He simply took the Kontrol Kontrols that many recording studios use and switched the placement of the needles. Instead of flipping the needle on one key at a time, as would be the case if a person played the keyboard, he did it in the series, but more efficiently, by placing the needle on the white keys of the piano that had white needles.
The second most popular story about the origins of hip hop music is that of Sam Cooke. Cooke became popular because of his song "Do You Love Me." He believed that the song was so catchy, he said it was his best-selling record ever.
Columbo was also a popular character who sang hip hop songs. However, Columbo did not start playing the piano. He was a talented, if unoriginal musician who used the same technique of cutting into the piano notes with a pair of scissors to make his sound better.
