Repton School - An Independent Grammar School

Repton School is a Christian, mixed, selective independent school, established in the late thirties, in Repton, Derbyshire, England, where both boys and girls attend. The motto of the school is "Inner Growth Through God's Word". It was started by Rev. Dr. James R. Repton, who served as the principal and later as the deacon in the Repton church. In his words it is "The first boarding school in England to be chartered by a Roman Catholic Queen".

In the recent past Repton has experienced a merger with St. Bride's School and the combined establishment is called Repton Hall. These two establishments now form the largest boarding school in England. Independent Schools in Repton comprised of boys and girls has been around since the start of this century. A major part of Independent Schools in Repton is the athletic department. Sports are an important part of the life of students, which is why most of these schools have a good program for athletes. Competitive sports like basketball, football, baseball and soccer are available at all ages, so there's no lack of interested children.

Repton's two main schools are combined under the heading of Repton School and the Repton grammar school. The Repton School began as a co-ed school, but in 1992, following an increase in the enrollment, the school changed to a co-ed Grammar School. In its early history, the Repton Grammar School had a mixed student body. Of particular note were the socially conservative element of the community, as well as some of the more liberal and much younger students from the Creon junior grammar school.

The Repton grammar school headmaster, Rev. Johnventure, is well known throughout the country as a great motivator and positive role model. He has always had a top class academic record. His long years as a teacher and administrator have allowed him to be highly qualified in all aspects of teaching. He is also very involved in local community affairs and active in the Repton community. While he is no longer in charge of the school, many consider him a valuable mentor and friend.

One of Repton's closest communities is the Repton prepatory school, which is for the older boys. The headmaster, Thomas Bromley, runs this preparatory school, which is attended by boys from eight to thirteen years old. The curriculum is rigorous, and the academics and general study are excellent. The student body at the preparatory school is made up of boys who are in their primary school years. Of the fifteen pupils, five are in their first year of English grammar.

Overall, Repton is a top performing independent school. Its students consistently perform above the national average. There are two main secondary schools in Derbyshire - Repton College and Wrexham Academy. Both of these provide a good education to pupils that can prepare them for life at university level.
